Locating your Friend Code
Power on your Wii console and insert your game disc.
Click the message board icon in the lower-right hand corner of the screen. Locate the Address Book icon, and click that.
Copy down the 16-digit code on the front of the address book. This is your system's network code, and does not currently allow other users to play games with you. Exchanging this code allows you to exchange messages, Miis and send Wii Shop Channel games as gifts to other people.
Return to the Wii Menu and start your Wi-Fi-enabled game. Look through the game menus for the "multi-player" or "online play" modes.
Find the game's "Friend Roster" or "Friend Book." On this book, it will indicate the friend code for the game. This code allows you to play this game with the other players. You will find this code on all of your online-enabled games, and will have to exchange it with any players you'd like to play with.
Finding and Connecting to Others
Exchange the friend codes with other players. Either by email, text or handing the code to your friends or other players. You can also exchange some of these codes with other players on forums, although this is slightly more risky--as you don't know who these people are in reality. Users of Wii-related forums are generally a good place to start. (One such forum is listed in Resources.)
Return to the message board on your Wii menu, and open the "Address Book." Add any friends you wish to add to your Message Board and other Wii features using the "Add" feature.
Start your game from the Wii menu and return to the "Friend Roster" or "Multiplayer book" and add the friend codes for those players in.
Wait for your friends or the other players to add your codes to their friend books.
Start a multiplayer game, and look for your friends to play with. If you have added their codes on your Wii message board, you can also start exchanging messages or sending Miis to them.
