Things You'll Need
Instructions
Open up a browser on your computer. Enter the IP address of your router. This IP address can be found through your router manufacturers website or though a list of routers supported by the Nintendo Wii. For example, the standard IP address for a Belkin router is 192.168.2.1. Enter the information into the browser without inputting "www." before the IP address.
Select "Wireless" from the main menu of your router's configuration screen. The tab may be found within "LAN Settings" on certain router models.
Note the SSID displayed on the screen. Change the SSID by entering a new set of characters or write down the existing SSID. You must have the SSID to connect your Wii manually to your router.
Select "Security" from your router's settings and write down the security type and password. Examples of security types are WEP, WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK. The password was chosen by you at the time you set up your router.
Exit the router setting and open up the TCP/IP settings on your computer. On a PC, this is located by accessing the Control Panel, Local Area Connections and then selecting TCP/IP from the component and clicking Properties. On a Mac, go to your System Preferences, then Internet and Network and then the Network icon.
Write down the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway IP Address and DNS that appear in the settings menu. If you do not see a value listed, it will be obtained automatically by your Wii.
Power on your Wii console. Select the "Wii" icon on the bottom left of the screen and then select "Wii Settings" and "Internet."
Choose "Connection Settings" and select one of the open connection boxes. Choose "Wireless Connection" and then click on "Manual Setup."
Highlight the SSID box and enter the SSID you wrote down earlier. Click the arrow to move to the next setting.
Select the security option you marked down before and enter your password.
Click "No" when it asks to "Auto-Obtain IP Address." Enter the IP address, Subnet, and DNS information as prompted.
Select "Don't Use" when prompted to use a proxy server. Don't change the MTU value on the next screen.
Highlight and click "Save." Your Wii will run a connection test after which it will save the settings and allow you to connect to your router.
