Instructions
Press the "Power" button on the Wii Remote to turn the Nintendo Wii on. You can also turn the power on manually by pressing the blue "Power" button on the front of the console.
Hold the Wii Remote vertically and point it directly at the television screen. The Wii Remote sensor bar automatically picks up the remote sensors, and while it may seem common to point the remote directly at the sensor bar, you can just point the remote directly at the television.
Move the remote around to practice and see how the cursor moves on the screen. Your hand-eye coordination needs to naturally adjust to the Wii's sensors, so it may take a few minutes to get used to how the remote moves according o your own movements.
Insert a Wii disc with the label facing outward to the right. The console automatically loads the disc, and a blue light will flash while the disc is being read.
Press the "A" button on the Wii remote when the cursor is on the "Disc Channel" in the upper-left corner of the screen. A small preview screen of the Wii game will appear. Point the Wii remote to the "Play" option and press the "A" button.
Connect the Nunchuk controller to the Wii remote by plugging in the silver connection to the bottom of the Wii remote. The Nunchuk is not used for every Wii game, so check the game's manual to see if the Nunchuk is used.
Hold the Wii remote in your dominant hand and the nunchuk in the nondominant hand while playing. If this is uncomfortable, try switching hands to see if there is a difference.
Use your thumbs to operate the front buttons like "A", "1" and the directional pad, or D-pad. Use your pointer or middle fingers to operate the back trigger buttons on both the Wii Remote and nunchuk.
Turn the Wii Remote horizontally to play certain Wii games. The D-pad faces your left hand, while the "1" and "2" buttons face your right hand in a setup like the original Nintendo NES controller. This controller setup works for several Wii games and class Virtual Console games such as "Street Fighter" and "Super Mario Bros. 3."
Flip open the top flap of the Wii console to reveal the GameCube controller ports. Insert a GameCube controller and use it for Virtual Console games as well as GameCube games. Insert GameCube games using the same process as Wii games.
