The Nintendo Wii works a lot like a computer and uses different Wii operating systems to control the software and functions of the gaming console. While upgrading is only officially made through Nintnedo, players can easily downgrade a Wii from system menu 3.4 to older system menus by downloading and installing software through the SD port on the console.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert SD card into SD card reader and connect it to your computer. Format the card by opening the main folder and deleting everything on it. You can also perform a quick format by right-clicking on the drive and selecting the "Format" option.

    • 2

Download the Homebrew Setup software from WiiBrew.org. This software includes the BannerBomb installation files and the HackMii software files that includes an automatic download of the Wii Homebrew Channel.

    • 3

Drag and drop the downloaded files onto the root of the SD card. Change the "Boot" file extension to ".elf" instead of ".dol."

    • 4

Remove the SD card from your computer and insert it to your Nintendo Wii. Use your Wii remote to select the SD card channel at the bottom of the screen. If your Wii does not feature the SD card channel, click on "System Menu" and choose the "Data Management" option.

    • 5

Click on the "Yes" prompt when a message appears on the screen. This initializes the HackMii and Homebrew installation. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the software. Once the installation is complete, the Wii will automatically restart and the Homebrew Channel should appear as its own channel.

    • 6

Click on the Homebrew Channel and wait for it to load. Select the "Homebrew Browser" from the list of options on the screen. Follow the prompts to install the software or updates needed.

    • 7

Click on the "Utilities" tab on the main menu of the "Homebrew Browser." Find the "ISO Downgrader" application and click on the "Download" tab. The download is complete when the bar fully turns red.

    • 8

Go back to the main menu of the "Homebrew Channel" by pressing the "B" trigger button. Select the "ISO Downgrader" application from the menu options.

    • 9

Once the application loads, scroll and select an older operating system like "3.2" or "3.3." Click on the download tab and wait for the download to completely finish.

    • 10

Restart your Wii and check the new system menu by going to "System" and looking at the menu version in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
