How to Connect Wii Components

The Nintendo Wii gaming console has a variety of components that can be connected for gameplay. There are gaming controllers, like the essential Wiimote and Nunchuk, the Wii Zapper (used for shoot-'em-up games) and the Wii Wheel (used for driving games). The Balance Board is used with games that involve human weight interaction, like "Wii Fit." You can mount the Wii Speak microphone to the Sensor Bar to allow users in different places to communicate with each other through an Internet connection. All of these components are easy to connect so you can immediately get to the business of gaming.

Instructions

  1. Connecting the AC Adapter and Sensor Bar

    • 1

Connect the AC adapter to the DC Input connector on the back of the Wii console, then plug it into a wall outlet.

    • 2

Connect the Wii Sensor Bar cable to the port on the back of the console.

    • 3

Remove the plastic covering from the two stickers on the Wii Sensor Bar.

    • 4

Stick the Wii Sensor Bar to the middle of the top of the TV or the bottom. If the TV is mounted high on the wall, reception may be better if the Sensor Bar is on the bottom. Make sure the Sensor Bar is mounted on the front edge of the TV because reception will suffer if it is placed farther back.

Now the Wii can be turned on, and it can receive signals from the Wiimote and other wireless accessories.

    Connecting Wireless Accessories

    • 5

Remove the rubber jacket on the Wiimote by pulling it up from the bottom until you can access the battery compartment.

    • 6

Remove the battery compartment cover and insert two AA batteries in the compartment with the "+" and "-" signs on the batteries facing the appropriate directions.

    • 7

Turn on the Wii console and open the SD card compartment cover on the front of it.

    • 8

Press the red "Sync" button inside the Wiimote battery compartment.

    • 9

Press the red "Sync" button in the SD card compartment. When the LED lights on the Wiimote stop blinking and one light appears, the connection is complete.

    • 10

Repeat these steps for additional Wiimotes.

    • 11

Connect a Nunchuk to the Wiimote by plugging its cable into the port on the bottom of the Wiimote.

    • 12

Connect the Wiimote and Nunchuk to the Wii Zapper by laying a Wiimote without the rubber jacket into the compartment in the front of the Zapper, then locking the Nunchuk into the compartment on the end of the Zapper. The top of the Wiimote where the sensor is must face the front of the Zapper to work.

    • 13

Remove the cable storage compartment cover from the bottom of the Zapper and insert the cable from the Nunchuk into it. Run the end of it through the notch in the compartment cover and plug it into the Wiimote.

    • 14

Replace the cable storage compartment cover. The Zapper is ready for use.

    • 15

Connect the Wii Wheel by removing the rubber jacket on the Wiimote and inserting it into the compartment on the Wii Wheel. The top of the Wiimote has to be facing the left side of the Wii Wheel. The Wii Wheel is now ready for use.

    Connecting the Wii Balance Board

    • 16

Turn over the Wii Balance Board and remove the battery compartment cover.

    • 17

Insert four AA batteries into the compartment, with the "+" and "-" signs on the batteries facing the appropriate directions.

    • 18

Insert a Balance Board-compatible game and start it.

    • 19

Press the red "Sync" button in the Balance Board battery compartment, then press the "Sync" button in the SD card compartment. When the LED light on the Balance Board stays lit, the synchronization is complete.

    • 20

Replace the Balance board battery compartment and turn the device over to use it. Place the Balance Board 3 to 10 feet away from the Sensor Bar for the best reception.

    Connecting the Wii Speak microphone

    • 21

      Turn off the Wii.

    • 22

Connect the USB cable on the Wii Speak to a USB port on the back of the Wii console.

    • 23

Remove the protective covering on the pads on the bottom of the Wii Speak.

    • 24

Attach the Wii Speak to the middle of the top of the Sensor Bar. The Wii Speak is ready for use.
