The Best Multiplayer Shooter Games for the Wii

With its motion-control scheme, the Nintendo Wii offers many shooting games. Using either the Wii remote and a nunchuk accessory or the Wii Zapper, players can move their characters and fire at the screen. A handful of multiplayer shooters have stood out from the crowd of titles for the console.
  1. 'Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare'

    • This title takes the best-selling game series and moves it from World War II to the modern-day battlefield with advanced weapons and techniques. Players battle in global hot spots such as the Middle East and Russia and can call in air support to help defeat their enemies. The console supports up to two players locally, and 10 players can battle in one game online. "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" provides unprecedented customization options for multiplayer battles, with unlockable perks allowing special skills and a variety of weapon sets for selection.

'Call of Duty: World at War'

    • The fifth iteration of the "Call of Duty" series takes the plot back to World War II, but this time, you fight primarily against Japanese soldiers on the eastern front. Two players can fight the campaign as Russian and American soldiers or battle against one another in multiplayer maps. New weapons such as the flamethrower add a wrinkle to the artillery. The level of control and variety of multiplayer maps makes this one of the more popular games for same-screen battles.

    'Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles'

    • This title uses the Wii Zapper (or you can use the Wii remote) to take players through levels from four earlier games in the "Resident Evil" series. You must kill zombies and mutant creatures as you travel through mansions, trains and secret laboratories to uncover the plot of the Umbrella Corporation to unleash evil upon the world. The game play is what is known as an "on-rail shooter," meaning that you do not move the character. Instead you fire at enemies as the game automatically advances you through each level. Up to two players can play at once, working in tandem to survive the horrors, marking the game as one of the best titles for multiplayer teamwork available on the Wii.

    'Medal of Honor Heroes 2'

    • The World War II genre continues to provide some of the best shooters available on home consoles. The multiplayer component lets 32 players battle at once online. Games are continuous, and you can jump in and out at any time. "Medal of Honor Heroes 2" offers a mode for young or novice players that simplifies the game play to allow users of all skill levels to compete, making this game one of the best multiplayer options for children. This is another on-rail shooter title and also allows players to use the Wii Zapper.
