How to Use a Wii With an LCD TV

The Nintendo Wii video game console uses motion detection to control the action in games. The motion detection technology used in the Nintendo Wii added a different dynamic to gaming compared to the static controller input of other game systems. Though the control technology is different, connecting the Wii to an LCD television is similar to other component devices in a home entertainment center.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the large end of the AV cable into the "AV Multi Out" jack on the back of the Wii and plug the three plugs on the opposite end of the cable into the "Video" and "Audio" input jacks on your television. The yellow plug is inserted in the "Video" jack, the white plug is inserted in the left "Audio" jack and the red plug is inserted in the right "Audio" jack.

    • 2

Connect the sensor bar to the Wii by plugging it into the "Sensor Bar" jack. The sensor bar is the long, thin receiver that reads movement by the Wii remote units.

    • 3

Place the sensor bar in a visible location above or below the television. Align the bar so its center is in the center of the television screen.

    • 4

Plug the AC adapter into the "DC" jack on the back of the Wii and plug the opposite end into a working electrical outlet.

    • 5

Turn the Wii on by pressing the "Power" button and turn on the television. Use the "Input" or "TV/Video" button on the television to set it to the correct video input channel. You will see the Wii menu on the screen.

    • 6

Point a Wii remote at the sensor bar and hold down the "Power" button until the first indicator light blinks and then remains lit.

    • 7

Move your hand and arm around to move the pointer arrow on the screen. The arrow will move as your hand moves. Choose options with the "A" button.

    • 8

Insert a game disc in the front of the unit. The game will appear on the menu. You can start the game by holding the arrow over the menu entry and pressing the "A" button.
