How to Synchronize a Wii Controller

Syncing your Wii remote is the process of getting the console to recognize it. This may need to be done when using a remote for the first time, after changing batteries or when the console has simply lost contact with the remote.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the power on the Wii Console off and back on using the ̶0;Power̶1; button. You may also need to unplug the console for a few seconds. Your screen should display safety warnings for the Wii when it powers back up.

    • 2

Open the flap near the disc drive on your Wii console and hold down the ̶0;Sync̶1; button for at least 15 seconds.

    • 3

Remove the battery cover on your Wii remote control and press the red button near the batteries. The blue lights on your Wii remote should begin blinking.

    • 4

Press the ̶0;Sync̶1; button on your console again, without holding it down this time. The blue lights on the Wii remote should stop blinking, indicating the remote has successfully synced.

    • 5

Repeat the steps above to sync any additional remotes, omitting the first step. There is no need to power off the console to sync additional remotes.
