How to Back Up Wii Games Over a Network Connection

The Nintendo Wii's Homebrew Channel has gained much notoriety through the different functions and programs it offers Wii owners. One of the more popular features is the ability to backup your own Wii game over your network connection.

      Turn on your Nintendo Wii and wait for the system to boot up. Connect your Wiimote to your system. Push the "Eject" button on the Wii to remove any disk that may be inside the console.

      Connect your Wii to your home network using an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. To connect with Wi-Fi, select the "Wii" icon on the dashboard and select "Wii Settings." Select "Internet" and "Connection Settings" from the menu. Select "Connection 1" and "Wireless" and your Wii will search for your home network. Select it when the list comes up and enter in the password if there is one.

      Insert your SD card into the Wii̵7;s SD card slot at the top of the console. Use your Wiimote to navigate to the "Homebrew" channel on your Wii dashboard. Select it to open.

      Point at the "DVD Dumper" program with your Wiimote and select it to open. Press the ">" on your Wiimote until it says "Wi-Fi Connection" on the first line of text within the DVD Dumper program. Press the "A" button to advance.

      Press the ">" button on the Wiimote on the next section to choose which type of disk you want to backup. You have the choice of "Gamecube" or "Wii." Press "A" to advance. Insert your Wii game into your Wii and wait as the program reads the disk. Press "A" and you will be shown a network address.

      Go to your computer and open up a web browser. Enter in the address from the Wii program and a DVD Dumper menu will appear on your computer screen. This is not downloading any program to your computer. It is just allowing your computer direct access to the Wii.

      Click "Download Your ISO" from the list of options and your Wii game will be copied to your computer via the network connection.
