How to Turn on the Wii Console

The Wii is a popular gaming system built by Nintendo. The Wii has revolutionized gaming by the use of the Wii Remote. Instead of just pushing buttons, you use a handheld remote that senses your movement when playing a game. For example, to hit a ball, you swing the remote. Setting up your Wii is an easy process that will have you playing Wii games in under an hour.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the Wii from the box, and place the Wii console under or beside your TV, and determine how you would like the Wii console to sit. You can position the Wii horizontally (laying down) or vertically (standing up) using the Wii stand. Choose a position that will allow the Wii to stay cool by having the maximum amount of air flow around the unit. This will prevent the Wii from overheating during game play.

    • 2

Connect the power cord to the back of the Wii and plug the cord into an electrical outlet.

    • 3

Plug the sensor bar cord into the back of the Wii. Then place the sensor bar on top of your TV or on a ledge directly below your TV screen. The sensor bar controls how your actions with the Wii remote translate when playing a game on your TV screen, so you should place it as close to the TV screen as possible. For stability, use the adhesive strips that came with your Wii to hold the sensor bar in place.

    • 4

Insert the AV multiplug into the back of the Wii console. Then, take the other side of the AV plug, which contains three connectors, and connect it to the back of your TV. Connect the yellow connector to the video input, the white connector to the left audio input, and the red connector to the right audio input.

    • 5

Turn on the Wii by pressing the "Power" button on the front of the Wii console. When the Wii is turned on, a green light will appear on the front of the console.

    • 6

Turn on your TV and find the correct Input Select to view the Wii screen. To do this, keep pressing your TV/Video button to rotate through your TV's inputs until you see the Wii startup screen. For example, you may rotate through Cable TV, VCR and DVD before you see the Wii startup screen. If you are having trouble locating your TV's Input, go to http://www.Nintendo.com/consumer/systems/general/inputselects.jsp to view Nintendo's listing of Input Selects by TV manufacturer.

Place two AA batteries in your Wii remote. Keep the Wii remote battery case open.

    • 8

Open the SD card slot cover on the front of the Wii console. Press the small red button inside the SD slot.

    • 9

Press the small red button on the Wii remote, below the Wii battery compartment. Replace the battery cover and turn the Wii remote over. When the "Player" light on the Wii remote quits blinking, the remote is synced to the Wii console. You are now ready to begin playing games on your Wii.
