How to Get the SSID for the Wii

You have set up your Wii and are anxious to begin playing games. But when testing your Wi-Fi connection to your Wii, you are receiving errors. The error is "Your wireless network is not within range or incompatible to the Wii" What should you do? One of your first steps is to check your SSID. An SSID, or service set identifier, is a 32-character code that specifies the access point of your wireless network. The SSID also acts as the name of your wireless network. This ID is defined on your network's router software. The SSID for your Wi-Fi network and the Wii settings must be in sync for the Wii to function properly.

    • 13

Carefully compare the SSID entered in the Wii's SSID Settings field to the SSID that you wrote down from your router settings. If these SSIDs are not identical, change the Wii SSID to match your network's SSID. If the SSIDs match, the SSID is not the problem with your Wii setup.
