How to Downgrade Wii Firmware

Nintendo Wii owners looking to customize their Wii, menu and channels can only do so much with the newer versions of Wii firmware. If you want to downgrade your firmware, you can select multiple former versions and easily downgrade your system as long as you have an Internet connection, an SD card and Wii Homebrew.

  Use the ̶0;BannerBomb̶1; installation to install the Wii Homebrew Channel to your Wii. (There are links in the References section.) The Wii Homebrew Channel is made for Wii users to import and use their own applications on the Wii.

  Download the ̶0;Homebrew Browser̶1; to an SD card from your computer. Install it into the ̶0;Application̶1; folder on the SD card.

  Insert the SD card into the Wii and load the ̶0;Homebrew Channel.̶1; Find the ̶0;Homebrew Browser̶1; and press the ̶0;A̶1; button. Wait for the ̶0;Homebrew Browser̶1; to load and install any updates if needed.

  Click on the ̶0;Utilities̶1; tab in the ̶0;Homebrew Browser.̶1; Scroll down until you find the ̶0;Wii System Downloader̶1; application. Point and select the ̶0;Download̶1; icon.

  Restart the Wii and open the ̶0;Homebrew Channel.̶1; Click on the ̶0;Wii System Downloader̶1; and wait for the program to start.

  Follow the prompts to access the main menu. Press ̶0;A̶1; to select ̶0;Downgrade Option.̶1;

  Scroll through the list of system versions and choose the one you want to downgrade to. Press ̶0;A̶1; to confirm this selection.

  Agree to downgrade your Wii system by pressing ̶0;B̶1; and starting the download. Once the downgrade is complete, press ̶0;B̶1; to exit the program and restart the Wii.

  Load the Wii System menu by clicking on the icon at the bottom of the screen and selecting ̶0;System Settings.̶1; Click on ̶0;Version̶1; to see which Wii firmware you are using; make sure it matches the selection you made in Step 7.
