How to Get All the Star Coins on Level 1-3 of New Super Mario Brothers Wii

New Super Mario Brothers Wii is a side-scrolling run-and-jump game in the classic Super Mario tradition. Star Coins add an extra layer of challenge and reward to the game. Players can collect them to unlock secret hints. Level 3 introduces Yoshi, and you'll need him (or some other way to aid your jumping) to get all three Star Coins. Remember that you can shake the controller to dismount Yoshi, or to jump off him while in the air.

Instructions

  Follow the trail of regular coins to the first Star Coin, which is floating just past the question block where you get Yoshi. Hold down the "1" button to run, and press "2" to jump, then shake the controller to jump off Yoshi in the air. This boosts your jumping height so you can grab the first coin.

  Go to the cluster of vertical pipes with piranha plants popping out of them, shortly after the halfway flag. You'll see a hollow section of ground just to the right of the fourth green pipe; that's your clue that something secret is going on. Drop down the third green pipe--the one that's just barely poking out of the ground--and walk into what appears to be the wall, but isn't. Go down the newly exposed yellow pipe (making sure to take Yoshi with you). In the hidden area below, run and jump, then jump off Yoshi, to get the Star Coin floating in the air.

  Keep going until you come to a bending red pipe with a piranha plant popping out; the Star Coin is in the air just to the left of this. Defeat all of the enemies in the area, then jump onto the red pipe and over to the last Star Coin.
