How to Hook Up a Wii Console to the Internet

The Nintendo Wii is a motion-sensitive gaming console that uses wireless sensors to detect movement in its controllers. The console can play video games, store pictures and view movies. Wii users can also connect the console to the Internet to browse the Internet, play games with friends and send messages. The Wii can connect to the Internet via a wired or wireless connection, though the console requires an adapter to accept a wired connection.

Instructions

  1. Wi-Fi Connection

      Turn on the console by pressing the power button on the front of the Wii. Press the "A" button when prompted to continue to the main Wii screen.

      Click on the "Wii" button at the bottom right of the main Wii page. Click on the "Wii Settings" icon.

      Click on the right arrow to view more options. Select the "Internet" option. Click on the "Connection Settings" option. Select an empty connection slot to configure.

      Select "Wireless" as the connection type. Click on the "Search for an Access Point" option to have the Wii automatically detect your wireless connection. Click "OK" when the Wii finishes its scan.

      Select your wireless connection from the list of access points detected. Enter a password for the network if applicable. Click "OK" to save your settings.

      Click "OK" to run a connectivity test. Wait for the Wii to finish testing the connection. Download any necessary updates that appear once the connection has been tested.

    Wired Connection

      Turn on the console by pressing the power button on the front of the Wii. Press the "A" button when prompted to continue to the main Wii screen.

      Click on the "Wii" button at the bottom right of the main Wii page. Click on the "Wii Settings" icon.

      Select "Wired" as the connection type. Insert the Wii LAN adapter into a USB port at the back of the console. Insert your Internet cable into the adapter. Click "OK" to test your connection. Download any necessary updates that appear on your screen. Your console is now connected to the Internet.
