How to Get a One Star Rank on Mario Kart Wii

Games have long rewarded players who do well. In the 1970s and 1980s arcade games, you were able to put your initials into the top scores if you ranked high enough. Today, many games will unlock various levels, songs or characters--depending on how well you do. In "Mario Kart Wii," you can unlock characters by achieving a one star ranking in the different courses and at different CCs. But it's not as easy as it sounds.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the "Manual" option before racing to give yourself the ability to drift. Drifting not only saves you time, but also gives your car an extra boost. Hold drift longer for a bigger boost.

    • 2

Avoid banging into walls or obstacles more than once or twice throughout the entire of the race. Stay on the road as well. Going into the grass once may not kill your chances, but two times probably will. Stay in first place for as much as you possibly can throughout the race.

    • 3

Avoid using items on other players. Catch up to them by drifting or drafting (racing directly behind another car so that the aerodynamics give you a boost.)

    • 4

Obtain 53 points in a given tournament to ensure your one star ranking. Place first in at least three of the four races, and come in second in one race, and you should be fine.
