"Mario Kart Wii" is the Wii version of the time-honored "Mario Kart" series. While every game begins with a roster of favorite Nintendo characters like Mario and Luigi, more characters are often featured as extras that must be earned. While some of these extra characters can be difficult to attain, others, like Birdo, require very little effort. Birdo, who made her debut in 1987, is easily acquired, and is a welcome addition to the "Mario Kart" crew.

Boot up "Mario Kart Wii" and enter single-player mode.

Enter Time Trial mode. Select any "Mario Kart" character and a track. Complete the course.

Repeat Step 2 15 times, choosing a different course each time. After completing 16 different courses on Time Trial mode, Birdo will be unlocked.
