How to Connect a Wii Controller for Mario Party

Mario Party for the Nintendo Wii lets four people play the game simultaneously. In order for everyone to play, though, the four controllers--what Nintendo calls Wii remotes, or "Wiimotes"--have to be synchronized with the Wii console. Syncing lets the console communicate with each controller. You can sync remotes in two ways. Standard mode keeps a remote synced to a console. Use this method if you own both the system and the Wiimotes. If you'll be using your remote on someone else's console, you can temporarily sync using "One Time" mode.

Instructions

  1. Standard Mode

    • 1

Turn on the controller you want to keep synced to the console by pressing the round power button on the upper-left corner of the Wiimote.

    • 2

Take off the Wii remote's jacket.

    • 3

Remove the battery cover, then press the red button. This is the sync button.

    • 4

Turn over the Wii remote to find four flashing lights, indicating the syncing process has begun.

    • 5

Open the SD card slot on the Wii console. The slot is located between the eject button and the reset button. It's also next to the game disc slot.

    • 6

Press the red, rectangular sync button you've revealed by opening the SD card slot cover on the console.

    • 7

Check your Wiimote. When the lights stop flashing on the remote, the syncing process is complete.

    One Time Mode

    • 8

Turn on the TV where you will play Mario Party.

    • 9

Press the round "HOME" button on a Wiimote that is already synchronized with the Wii console. The button has a blue picture of a house on it.

    • 10

Choose "Wii Remote Settings" on the menu that comes up on your TV. It will be at the bottom of the screen.

    • 11

      Choose "Reconnect."

    • 12

Press the round "1" and "2" buttons on the Wii controller simultaneously. Blue LED lights on the Wiimote will flash, letting you know that sync is occurring. When the flashing stops, the process is finished.
