How to Connect a Second Controller to the Wii

When people open their newly purchased Nintendo Wii systems, they find one Wii remote plus a Nunchuk inside. This "Wiimote," as owners like to call it, comes ready to use with the system--that is, it is synchronized, allowing the Wiimote to communicate with the console. Few owners, though, are satisfied with the single included Wiimote. Any extra controllers must be synced manually. To perform this operation, the Nunchuk should not be connected to the Wii remote.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn on the Wii console.

    • 2

Turn on the Wii remote, using the "Power" button located in the upper-left corner. The power button has a red, circular mark.

    • 3

Take the jacket off the remote.

    • 4

Turn the Wii remote over, then remove the battery cover.

    • 5

Find the red "Sync" button within the battery compartment. (You won't need to take out the batteries.)

    • 6

Press the red button, then turn over the remote to see four flashing blue lights. The flashing lights let you know you've successfully completed the beginning of the syncing operation.

    • 7

Locate the SD card slot on the Wii console. You'll find the slot between the "Reset" and "Eject" buttons.

    • 8

Open the door of the card slot to find the red, rectangular "Sync" button. Press it.

    • 9

Watch the flashing lights on the Wii remote. When they stop flashing, the operation is complete.
