How to Convert to Wii

The Nintendo Wii video game console not only plays games but also plays video files. Nintendo does not tout this ability of the game console and has created a special video format that only the Wii can use. Video files from a computer must be converted into the Wii video format in order to play on the game console. Converting video files to the Wii̵7;s video format can be done using a Wii video converter program that runs on Mac and PCs. The Wii video file that is made can then be transferred onto the Wii and played in the same fashion as it would be on a computer or a mobile device.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install a Wii video converter program to the computer's desktop, such as the Wii Video 9 program, which runs on both Mac and PCs (see the link in Resources). Restart the PC.

    • 2

Run the Wii video converter program. Click on the "Setting" tab, select "Devices" and then the "Wii" subsection. Select the "MPEG Video" folder that was automatically created on the computer's hard drive when the Wii video converter program was installed. This is where the converted videos will be saved.

    • 3

Click the "Convert" button on the Wii video converter program's main interface to go to the "Current Conversion" screen. Click on the "Convert Video" button and navigate in the window that appears to the video file that is to be converted into the Wii video file format. Highlight the video file with the mouse. Click the "Open" button to close the window.

    • 4

Click the "Wii" button in the "Current Conversion" screen. Select "MPEG" from the "Encoding Profile" drop-down menu. Click "OK" at the bottom of the screen to close the screen.

    • 5

Click the "Start" button on the Wii video converter program's main interface. Wait as the video file is converted into a Wii-compatible video file and saved to the "MPEG video" folder. The Wii-compatible video can now be copied from the computer's hard drive to a memory card and used on the Wii to play the video.
