Things You'll Need
Instructions
Turn on the Wii console and click the Wii menu to open the "Settings" system.
Scroll to "Internet Settings" and perform a connection test to verify that you do need to alter the IP address settings. If you have not set up your Internet, choose a connection to edit--follow the on-screen prompts to set it up and then check for an IP conflict by testing the connection.
Power down the Wii completely, unplug it for a few seconds, then turn it back on. This should make the system reset the IP address. Retry the Internet connection.
If the Internet still doesn't connect, open the connection settings for the Internet connection you're working on. For most Wii systems, this is "Connection 1".
Press the "+" button or click the right arrow to move to the screen that says "Auto-obtain IP Address".
Choose "No" and then select "Advanced Settings". Ideally, the system should change the IP address whenever it starts up, but if you are having constant issues with the IP address, you may need to set the IP address for your Wii.
Determine the custom IP address you'll be using. Get into the wireless router's settings, you should be able to figure out which IP addresses are currently taken--and therefore figure out which are free. On most routers, if you type the main IP address in (for example, 192.168.1.1), you can log into the router for this purpose.
Type the new IP address into the Wii and test the Internet connection again.
