Adding a Friend
Verify that your Wii can connect to the Internet. Click the Wii icon in the bottom-left corner of the main menu, navigate to the Options and select "Internet Settings." Click "Perform Internet Test." If you are using the Nintendo LAN Adapter, ensure it is connected to the machine and to the modem or router. If no connection is made, follow the on-screen directions to set up or change your online settings.
Return to the main menu and click the "Message Board" (the envelope icon). Click on the notebook in the bottom left corner to open the friend list.
Note your Wii Number. This is a 16-digit code on the front cover of the friend list. Exchange this with the friend whose Wii you are trying to connect to, and acquire their code.
Click the right arrow and then the first entry in the friend list to add a friend. Select "Wii," then input the friend code from the other system.
Wait for your friend to input your friend code into his/her system. When both are entered, the consoles can send and receive messages, Miis and photos.
Playing a Friend
Insert a Wi-Fi compatible game into your Wii and begin the game.
Locate the Multiplayer game mode, and find the game's friend book, which often will also display the friend code. This code is a 12-digit number in three strings of four numbers which varies from game to game.
Exchange the friend code with your friend. Acquire your friend's code and enter it into the game.
Wait for your friend to input your friend code into his Wii. Only after the two are confirmed will you be able to play games online.
