Instructions

Purchase a Nintendo Wii LAN adapter wherever Nintendo products are sold. Nintendo offers LAN adapters through their online store, but these items can also be purchased at retail stores and gaming specialty stores. If you purchase a third-party LAN adapter or any other accessory, it is advisable to research product reviews online before purchasing to ensure compatibility.

Connect your LAN adapter to an ethernet cable running directly from your Internet access point modem or router. Do not attempt to connect the LAN adapter directly to your computer, as the LAN adapter is only meant to connect the ethernet cable and Nintendo Wii USB port. Once you have the ethernet cable properly inserted into the LAN adapter, you can now insert the LAN adapter into the back of the Nintendo Wii.

Examine the back of the Nintendo Wii to locate the USB port. Make sure the power to the Wii is turned off and then insert the LAN adapter into the USB port. If you are using a DSL Internet provider, it is recommended that you run your ethernet cable through a router before connecting to the LAN adapter as many DSL lines are not directly compatible with the Wii gaming console. Once you have attached all cables and have secured the connection running from the Internet access point to the LAN adapter, and into the USB port on the back of the Wii, you have completed your wired Internet connection. The next step is configuring your Wii Internet settings.

Power on your Wii gaming console and select the "Wii" button in the bottom left corner of the Wii console menu. This button takes you to the Wii settings menu where you will need to select "Internet" from the second page of the settings menu. Select "Internet connection" and save your Internet connection settings to an open connection. Select "wired Internet" and then complete the Internet connection test at the bottom of the screen. You are now connected to the Internet on your Wii gaming console.
