How to Set Up Wii to Digital Media System

In today's generation of video game consoles, it takes more than the ability to play games to make a good machine. We expect our consoles to be able to browse the Internet, play movies and music, and communicate with our friends. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Wii is lacking in some of these departments. You're in luck, however, because with a home computer running Microsoft Windows or Apple OS X10.5+ Intel, and a broadband Internet connection, you'll be able turn your Wii into a multimedia device.

Things You'll Need

  • Nintendo Wii
  • Personal computer
  • Windows XP, Vista, 7, or Apple OS X10.5+ Intel
  • 100MB of available hard drive space
  • 512MB of RAM
  • Broadband Internet connection
  • Orb 2.0 software
  • Email account

Setup your personal Orb account with the on-screen Account Setup Wizard.

    • 3

Select the folders and files you would like to be able to access on your Nintendo Wii (e.g. iTunes or Windows Media Player files).

    • 4

Log in to your Orb account at MyCast.orb.com and setup your personal profile, privacy preferences, and set Orb to stream video in Flash.

    • 5

Install or update the latest version of the Opera browser on your Nintendo Wii at the Wii Shop Channel. The browser costs 500 Wii-points to download for the first time.

    • 6

Navigate your Nintendo Wii browser to MyCast.orb.com and log in to your account to begin viewing the media you selected from your home computer on your Wii.
