480i signal
480i means that a signal of interlaced frames with 480 vertical lines is being sent from the Wii.
480i cables
The 480i signal is sent through the A/V cables that come standard with any Wii purchase.
480p signal
480p means that non-interlaced frames with 480 vertical lines are being sent from the Wii.
480p cables
This signal can be sent with Wii component cables, which must be purchased separately from the Wii system. These cables will plug into any high-definition TV on the market in 2009.
Comparison
480i is a clear resolution that should not cause a problem for anyone with a digital television. Owners of a high-definition TV, however, would be wise to buy component cables for their Wii in order to transmit a 480p signal. On an HDTV, the 480p resolution is much sharper and clearer than the 480i.
