Nintendo Wii Installation Instructions

Setting up your Nintendo Wii console for the first time can be a daunting task, especially if you're unfamiliar with installing game consoles in the first place. Fortunately, the process is fairly linear and simple, and everything you need to get to gaming is right in the box with your Nintendo Wii.
  1. Setup Preparation

    • Decide where you want to set up your Nintendo Wii and clear space for it. The Nintendo Wii can be stood horizontally on its base or vertically using the included stand. If you're using the stand, insert the stand plate into the stand by placing the prongs into the stand and sliding until they click. Then place it on a flat, level surface and place the Wii console directly into it.

    Installing the Power Cord/Sensor Bar

    • Plug the Wii's power cord into the back of the console. The end with the two metal prongs goes into an electrical outlet. If one is not available or within reach of your console, get a surge protector for use behind your entertainment center. Then plug the sensor bar, the long black bar with a cord sticking out of it, into the back of the Wii console. Mount the bar at the top or bottom and near the front of your TV set. Make sure it is centered with your TV, and use the sticky pads at the bar's base to securely mount it so it won't move or fall.

    Connecting to Your TV/VCR/DVD Player

    • Take the cable with the red, yellow and white inputs and plug the black end into the back of your Wii console. These are the audio video (AV) cables and allow you to see and hear what you're playing. The other end of these cables plug directly into the AV inputs on your TV (they match in color and will be labeled "AV Input"). If your TV lacks these inputs, connect through a DVD player or VCR that is connected to your TV. You can also use an RF modulator as well which can be purchased at any electronics store.
