How to Extend the Range of Wii Remotes

The remote for the Nintendo Wii allows players immersive controls not previously seen on home video gaming consoles. Players can swing a sword, roll a bowling ball and complete other activities by mimicking those motions with the Wii remote, which relays the motion to a senor bar on top of the television. Nintendo recommends standing three to eight feet from the television while playing. To extend this range to the upper limit there are some troubleshooting steps you can take.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the batteries. If the batteries are getting weak this may affect the signal. The remote will not work if the batteries are not properly inserted.

    • 2

Make sure the sensor bar is at the edge of the television. If the bar is not placed at the front of the television's top the signal may be partially blocked. Use the adhesive on the bottom of the sensor bar to secure it in place.

    • 3

Do not place your television in front of a window. Bright light sources (such as sunshine) can affect the strength of the signal.

    • 4

Move any objects that are located between the area in which you are playing, and the television. These objects can block the signal between the remote and the sensor bar.

    • 5

Avoid placing any infrared light sources near the television, including heaters and candles. The infrared light from heat sources can adversely affect the signal.

    • 6

Keep mirrors or picture frames away from the sensor bar. Reflective surfaces can cause interference with the signal.
