How to Plug Your Gamecube Controllers Into Your Wii

One of the biggest draws of the Nintendo Wii game console is its ability to play Gamecube games and make use of Gamecube memory cards and controllers. This backwards compatibility allows gamers to not only make use of a more traditional controllers for games such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but to continue playing their old game library on a single system, eliminating some of the clutter that would come with multiple gaming systems set up to one TV. Plugging Gamecube controllers into your Wii is a simple task that can be performed by anyone.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear space around your Nintendo Wii to make sure there's enough room above or around the console to accommodate the controller. You should also consider moving the console closer to where you'll be sitting or standing to account for the Gamecube controller's wire.

    • 2

Open or remove the hinged panel found on the side of the console adjacent to the "Power" button. If the console is positioned vertically, this hinged compartment is at the top of the console. This compartment contains all the inputs required for any Gamecube peripherals.

    • 3

Plug the Gamecube controller into the port closest to the front of the console (the side with the disc slot.) This port is for the first player, with the second, third and fourth player slots following respectively.
