How to Install a Free Browser on a Wii

You can browse the Internet on your Wii using a free browser called Opera. Opera uses the Wii remote, and is perfect for surfing the web, looking at photos and watching simple animations. As a basic browser, Opera does not support movie formats, such as Quicktime (.avi) or Windows Media Videos (.wmv), portable documents (.pdf), java applets, or uploading and dowloading of files (.ftp). To install Opera on your Wii is an easy and straight forward process.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure your Wii is connected to the Internet.

    • 2

Select "Channels" from the Wii Menu. You select an item by pointing the Wii remote at an icon on the screen and pressing the "A" button.

    • 3

Select "Start Shopping" from the Channels screen. If this is your first visit to the Shopping Channel, read the Terms and Conditions and respond " I accept."

    • 4

Select "Wii Channels" from the Shopping menu.

    • 5

Select "Internet Channel" from the Wii Channels menu. Since this is a Shopping Channel, some titles take points to buy. The Internet Channel is free from Nintendo, and the points value will be zero.

    • 6

Select "Yes" to accept the Terms and Conditions and the points amount (i.e., zero). The Opera browser will be quickly downloaded to your Wii.

    • 7

Press the "Home" button on the Wii remote to return to the Wii Menu. Notice the addition of the Internet Channel to the Wii Menu.

    • 8

Select "Internet Channel" to open the Opera browser.

    • 9

Click the "WWW" button and use the Wii remote to manually enter a web address by selecting letters from the onscreen keyboard. When you are finished entering the address, click "OK". Opera will retrieve the webpage, and display the page on the screen.
