How to Connect Wii to the Net

A feature of the Nintendo Wii game console is its capability for Internet access. You can take it online to compete with other gamers. You can browse the Web with the Wii's built-in Opera Browser and download software updates for your console.

  • Nintendo LAN or WiFi adapter
  • Ethernet cable (is using LAN adapter)

      Power off your Wii and connect the LAN or WiFi adapter to the back of the console with the attached USB cable.

      Connect the LAN adapter to your broadband modem or router with the Ethernet cable. Skip this step if you are using a WiFi adapter with a wireless router.

      Power on your Wii and click "Wii Options" at the bottom of the main menu. Then click on "Wii Settings."

      Scroll to the second page of options. Click on "Internet" and choose "Connection Settings." Choose "Wired Connection" and click "OK" if you are using the LAN adapter. Choose "Wireless Connection" and click "OK" if you are using the WiFi adapter.

      Wait for the system to validate the connection. Follow the prompt to download a software update if it appears.
