How to Change a Wii From PAL to NTSC

European countries use the PAL broadcast standard for the signals used by television services, DVD players and video consoles. The European version of the Wii is made for the PAL standard. Some countries use a different broadcast standard called NTSC, including the United States, Canada and Japan. In order to use a European Wii in one of those countries, the PAL signal needs to be converted to NTSC standard. This conversion can be accomplished with a PAL/NTSC converter.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the Wii AC adapter into a voltage adapter before plugging into the wall socket. The PAL Wii uses EU standard voltage. Most electronics stores have voltage adapters to allow imported electronics to be used. Get the version marked as EU standard or 230V and 50Hz.

    • 2

Plug the video cable into the television input and the converter output.

    • 3

Plug the Wii video output cable into the input of the converter.

    • 4

Select PAL input and NTSC output mode on the PAL/NTSC converter. Not all converters require this to be manually selected.

    • 5

Place the Wii sensor bar on top of the television. The PAL Wii will now work properly with the NTSC TV.
