Rock Band Vs. Guitar Hero on the Wii

Rock Band and Guitar Hero are rhythm-based games available for the Wii, Playstation 3, PC and Xbox 360. The Wii versions features a handful of differences not found on the other consoles. Due to the Wii's graphical limitations, neither game is displayed above 720i, making it look similar to that of an older-generation game.
  1. ESRB Rating

    • Both Guitar Hero and Rock Band are rated T for Lyrics and Mild Suggestive Themes.

    Platform Differences

    • While the content for both games remain the same across all platforms, Rock Band for Wii suffers from frame rate issues that are nonexistent in Guitar Hero. This is more apparent when four players are playing simultaneously.

    Online Play

    • Guitar Hero on the Wii will connect to Nintendo's Wi-Fi network automatically upon booting up the game. Players can remain logged in throughout their entire session. Rock Band uses the friend code system to connect players. To play with friends, both players must enter each other's unique friend code.

    Special Features

    • Guitar Hero on the Wii takes advantage of the Wii's SD card slot. Players can transfer and download songs to an SD card, which saves internal space and increases the load time of tracks on the SD card. While Rock Band can use the SD slot for downloaded songs, it will not load tracks directly from the SD card.

    Career Mode

    • Both Guitar Hero and Rock Band feature career modes which can be played by 1 to 4 players (who can leave and join at any time).

    Downloadable Content

    • Both games allow players to download extra songs (some free, some not) to an SD card. Some songs are available individually, while some are available only with the purchase of a song pack.
