Wii Alternative

The Nintendo Wii has taken the country by storm in the past few years due to its gameplay features. The Wii gives players a new way to play games with motion sensing controls that draw the player further into the experience. If the thought of shelling out $250 plus tax for a Wii, not to mention the price of the games, seems a bit pricey, there are alternatives that can give you the same level of interaction (see link in Resources).
  1. Jakks Pacific Ultimotion Swing Zone Sports Motion Controller Video Game

    • Jakks Pacific Ultimotion Swing Zone is designed for children ages 5 and up, but it can be fun for teens and parents as well. Jakks Pacific Ultimotion Swing Zone comes with five games, which are similar to the lineup included with Wii Sports, the game that comes prepackaged with the Wii. The included games are bowling, golf, tennis, baseball and football. The system comes with the console, all cables necessary and a controller. Unlike the Wii, Jakks Pacific Ultimotion Swing Zone also comes with specialized controller handles, which are also available for the Wii, but cost extra. The accessory handles consist of a golf club, tennis racket, bowling ball, baseball bat and a football. Retailing for just under $75, Jakks Pacific Ultimotion Swing Zone is considerably cheaper than the Wii for those who are only interested in a few games.

    Fisher Price 3-in-1 Smart Sports

    • The Fisher Price 3-in-1 Smart Sports system is clearly geared for younger children only. Kids can select from baseball, tennis or golf and play using the included motion controller. The system also includes a golf club, tennis racket and baseball bat add on for the controller to add to the child's enjoyment. If you are looking for a Wii alternative the whole family can enjoy, the Fisher Price 3-in-1 Smart Sports system is probably not for you and your family. However, if you are looking for a way to introduce your young children to the world of motion-controlled gaming without breaking the bank, this is an excellent option with a retail price of about $65.

    Spider-Man: Spider Sense Web-Master

    • The Spider-Man: Spider Sense Web-Master TV Motion Video Game is much more limited on the number of activities available, as it only has one game, but this will be a favorite for many young Spider-Man fans. Using the included controller, your child can control Spider-Man and help him protect the city from his greatest foes. Use the controller to swing and shoot webs while fighting Rhino, the Lizard, Mysterio and other enemies from the popular Spider-Man comics, movies, and cartoons. Spider-Man: Spider Sense Web-Master retails for $50 and--despite the lack of extra games--will be well worth it for a Spider-Man fan.
