Getting Started
Hold the Wii remote on its side, with the directional pad on the left. Start the game and select one of the game modes from the main menu. "Adventure" mode is the main game, where you control Sonic on his journey. "Party" mode allows you to play short mini-games with up to four players; follow each game's onscreen instructions to play. "Special Book" mode allows you to view artwork and movies you have unlocked.
Adventure Mode
Select a world and a mission from the "Mission Select" screen. Hold the Wii remote level, and Sonic will run forward. Tilt the remote upward, and Sonic will move backward. Tilt the remote to the left or right to steer Sonic left or right. Steer Sonic through the level, collecting rings and pearls while avoiding enemies and obstacles. Press the "2" button to jump; hold the button longer to perform a forward slide. When Sonic is in the air, press "2" to land immediately, or shake the remote toward the screen to dash forward.
When you see an enemy, perform a forward slide move, and a red cursor will lock onto it. Jump into the air and shake the Wii remote forward to perform a homing attack that will destroy the enemy. If there is another enemy nearby, shake the remote forward again to destroy it. Chain attacks together to destroy groups of enemies without touching the ground.
To walk carefully along a ledge, tilt the remote left or right to move Sonic in that direction. If an enemy hits Sonic, he will lose balance. Shake the remote forward to climb back up.
Collect rings to protect Sonic from damage. Each time you take damage from an enemy or trap, you will lose rings. If you are hit when you have zero rings, you will have to restart the mission. Collect "Fire Soul" items to unlock content in "Party" mode.
When you defeat enemies or pick up pearls, your orange "Soul Gauge" will fill. When it is full, you can perform a special move. Press "Up" on the directional pad to perform a "Speed Break" move, which causes Sonic to dash forward at great speed, destroying enemies and obstacles in his path. Press "Down" to perform a "Time Break" move, which slows down time and allows you to maneuver through obstacles more easily.
Upon completing a level, you will see a screen that rates your performance. If you completed the level quickly enough, you may receive a bronze, silver or gold medal; silver and gold medals unlock content you can view in the "Special Book" mode. You will also receive experience points based on your level score. Collect items and avoid damage to gain more experience points. Experience points allow you to purchase new skills and moves in the "Customize" section of the "Mission Select" screen.
