Cheats
Like most LEGO-based games, there are tons of cheats and codes you can enter to unlock characters and special features. Head to Dexter's Bar, located in the cantina where you start after every mission, and tell him you want to enter a cheat code. Just speak to him (action button) and select "Cheat Codes" from his dialogue screen. Some of the more popular ones are: NR37W1 = Silly Blasters, L449HD = Classic Blasters, IG72X4 = Big Blasters, SHRUB1 = Brushes, LD116B = Minikit Detector, RP924W = Mustaches, MS999Q = Silhouettes, and 4PR28U = Invincibility. You can enter these cheats immediately or eventually purchase them with coins. Once a cheat has been entered or purchased you can use it on any mission.
Custom Characters
You can make up to two custom characters with any power, costume or ability in the game once you have unlocked it. Initially only the classes and abilities will be available to you, but as you progress through the game you will unlock different weapons and outfits. Your custom characters will always be available to you in "Story Mode," and this gives you a big advantage over the default characters. The two hardest-to-unlock characters in each story are the Jedi and Bounty Hunters; naturally, they are needed to get the most coins and hidden secrets. Make one of your custom characters a Jedi (Dark Jedi preferred) and the other a Bounty Hunter. This will allow you to unlock and access every area in "Story Mode" without having to go back during "Free Play."
Space Combat
Every chapter contains missions that require you to fly vehicles instead of specific characters. Space combat can be a lot of fun, but it's very different then the rest of the game. There is no going back and collecting coins; each mission follows a set course, and you can only navigate your ship as it races towards the finish. You can make the most out of these levels, gaining 50,000+ coins each run, by following a few simple tips. Always stick to one side of the screen---enemies are evenly stacked between the left and right screens, so you can avoid half of them this way. Never stop shooting---hold down the default fire button and don't let go. This works especially well since you can't damage friendly units. Keep an eye peeled for golden bricks; these are the hardest ones in the game to get, since, if you miss it, you have to start the entire level over.
