Uses for the Wii USB

Nintendo's Wii console has several additional ports and expansion slots, including two USB 2.0 ports in the back of the console. The ports can be used for a variety of peripherals, though as of July 2009 Nintendo only manufactures two official USB peripherals for the Wii.
  1. Wii LAN Adapter

    • The Nintendo Wii LAN adapter allows users to connect their Wii to the Internet using a standard Ethernet cable. The adapter is useful for those who are not near a Wi-Fi hub or have a sluggish Wi-Fi connection.

    Wii Speak

    • The Nintendo Wii Speak allows users to voice chat over the Internet in supported games and in the Wii Speak channel. It is designed to filter game noise and allow an entire room to chat on the same microphone.

    Keyboards

    • Any USB keyboard can be plugged into the Wii's USB ports to allow users to type messages or website URLs using the Wii's Internet channel.

    Wii Fan Stand

    • The Wii fan stand is a USB-powered cooling station sold by GameStop. The fan stand is supposed to extend the life of heat-sensitive components inside the Wii.

    Charging USB Devices

    • The Wii can be used to charge MP3 players, phones and other devices that have a USB connector.

    Wii Charging Station

    • Mad Catz manufactures rechargeable Wii Remote batteries that can be charged in a station that plugs into a USB port.
