Nintendo Wii Golf Tips

Wii Golf is part of the Wii Sports game that is sold with the game console. The game presents a simplified, but accurate, golf simulation that uses the motion-sensing controller to guide the swing and includes realistic wind effects. There is a three-hole course for each level: beginner, intermediate and expert. The challenges get more difficult on the higher levels, with longer holes, stronger wind and more hazards to avoid. You can also choose to play all nine holes as one continuous course.
  1. The Power Meter

    • The lines going up the power meter correspond to the lines shown on the golf course when you set up for the shot. Swing the controller slow or fast depending on how high up the power meter you need to reach. When deciding which line to aim for, remember to adjust for the wind and the slope of the golf course. The ball will bounce and roll when it lands, unless you end up in the rough or a sand trap. If you swing too hard and go over the power meter, you will lose control and the ball will slice to the right or hook to the left.

The power meter is shortened when the ball is in the rough or a bunker, realistically depicting the loss of power and control that occurs in those tough spots. If you are stuck a bad spot and there is a strong wind, feel free to go into the red if you need extra power. No matter which way you hit the ball, the wind will take over and push it in the direction of the arrow.

    Choosing a Club

    • The game will auto-select a club for you on each shot. Sometimes this is not the best choice, especially when you are in a bunker that is still far away from the hole. The game will select the wedge, but you will not be able to hit with enough distance without going into the red on the power meter. Switch to an iron instead and hit the ball softer than usual, allowing it to roll along the grass up to the hole. You may also want to switch clubs when you are hitting from the edge of the green. The game will again choose the wedge, but the putter may be your best option. Putts are not affected by wind and will not veer off course if you hit the red part of the power meter.
