Buying New
Check out deals listed on the Internet and in newspaper flyers. One online site that informs people of current Wii deals is cheapwii.net. This site does not sell the Wii console itself, but simply provides information about various deals being offered.
Comparison shop. A great way to comparison shop is to use sites such as Google Product Search (google.com/products), Shopping.com (shopping.com) and Shopper.com (shopper.cnet.com). These sites will not only tell you the prices available at multiple stores, but also what the tax and shipping costs will be.
See if you can purchase the Wii at a store that offers you bonus points or a higher percent back.
Look for bundles. Bundles will reduce the total cost of the items purchased. However, make sure you want and will use all the items included in the bundle. Extraneous items increase the price and decrease your savings.
If you are a member of any store loyalty programs, see if you can get a discount on a Wii at that store.
If you have a credit card that has a reward program, consider using it to purchase your Wii. Then see if you can purchase the Wii at one of the stores listed by the credit card that will provide you more bonus points or a higher percent back.
Use a coupon. It is rare to find coupons for the Wii, but some Internet sites offer new and existing customers deals for using their sites. For example, $10 off on a purchase of $150 or more. Sites that often offer coupons or discounts that also sell Wii consoles include Buy.com and Overstock.com.
Buying Used
Used Wii consoles can be found all over the Internet. While most people are familiar with sites such as eBay and Craigslist, used Wii consoles can also be found on Amazon.com and when doing a Google Product Search.
Refurbished Wii consoles are harder to find than used and won't always save you much money (a price check showed them about $50 less than the MRSP). Refurbished means that the Wii has been repaired or restored to the manufacturer's standards.
Compare what you are saving to what you are risking. Buying used means that the warranty is either invalid or severely reduced (warranties on the Wii are good for one year after purchase). If the deal is not that great, you might be better off spending more to purchase a new Wii.
Avoid deals that sound too good to be true--they almost always are. A few years back someone was offering refurbished Wii consoles for $19.99. A great value, except not one person who paid the $20 got a Wii console.
Check out who's selling the used Wii. On eBay, this means reading their feedback. In person, this means knowing who you are purchasing from and trying out the Wii before you fork over any cash.
