Things You'll Need
Instructions
Turn off both the Wii console and Wii Remote. If both are on, press and hold the "power" button on the top left of the controller. This will power down the system and the remote.
Roll off the protective sleeve that surrounds the old Wii Remote. You can reuse it on a new Wii Remote.
Remove the battery cover and take out the batteries. If the batteries have not been drained, you can use them in the new Wii Remote or another device. Discard the old remote.
Place batteries into the back of the new Wii Remote. Do not replace the battery cover yet. You first need to sync the controller with the system.
Turn on the Wii console and allow it to fully load. Flip open the cover of the SD card slot. This is located directly under the disc slot if your Wii is placed horizontally, or to the left of the disc slot if the Wii is standing on its side. Opening the cover will reveal a place to insert SD memory cards as well as a red button similar to the one under the battery cover of the Wii Remote.
Press the red button on the Wii Remote. The four blue lights on the front of the controller will begin flashing. When this occurs, press the red button on the Wii console. The syncing process will begin. Upon completion, the lights will stop flashing and only one will be illuminated.
Replace the battery cover, place the Wii Remote in a protective sleeve and it will be ready for use.
