How to Use a Wii Classic Controller

Wii Classic Controllers are appealing for those who may want to take a break from the modern, motion-sensor remote and go back in time with an old-school setup. Using a Wii Classic Controller, you can relive some of those early gaming years and play once again with a paddle controller. When downloading those classic games, you now can have the controller to match.

  Take your Classic Controller plug and hook it into the bottom of your Wii Remote. The Wii console will read your classic paddle through the Remote.

  Become acquainted with the buttons on the Classic Controller. The button layout is similar to many of the latter-day controllers for Gamecube and Playstation. Two joysticks at the bottom control movement. The directional pad likens to the original controllers of Nintendo gaming. The A, B, X, Y buttons should look familiar to Super Nintendo players. The L and R buttons on the top are separated by two Z buttons (Z1 and Z2) between them. In between the Start and Select buttons is the Home button, also found on the Wii Remote.

  Start up your Virtual Console game and start playing. You are now ready to start using the controller.
