How to Take Apart a Wii Remote

The Nintendo Wii is a popular video game console. One of the major innovations of this system is its controller, the Wiimote, which combines buttons as well as a pointing device that allows for a further range of gaming applications. The controller is actually not that complicated, and taking it apart is relatively straightforward.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 mm tri-wing screwdriver
  • 2 mm or smaller flat-head screwdriver or knife

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the battery cover on the back of the controller, as well as the batteries.

    • 2

Using the tri-wing screwdriver, remove the two screws that sit beneath where the batteries would be.

    • 3

Remove the two screws that sit beneath the battery cover (at the two corners at the base of the controller).

    • 4

Gently pry apart the two halves of the outer casing of the controller by using a flat-head screwdriver of knife. The outer casing consists of two halves with a small gap running around the sides of the controller. Place the screwdriver in the part of this gap between the directional pad on the front and the trigger button on the back of the controller. Perform this step carefully to avoid damaging the controller.
