How to Back Up Wii Discs

Nintendo Wii games are extremely popular. But because they are DVD discs they are susceptible to damaged by young players who frantically handle them in order to change the game. At more than $40 per game in most cases, simply replacing the game can be cost prohibitive. For those who with many games, spending the time and money to properly back them up is well worth it.

  • LG GDR-8184B DVD-ROM Drive
  • DVD-RW
  • Computer software: WinRar
  • Raw Dump
  • New Framework

Instructions

      Follow the manufacturer's instructions to install the DVD-ROM drive into your computer.

      Download the following software if your computer doesn't already have it: WinRar, Raw Dump and Net Framework. Many operating systems already have this, but they can be found with a simple Google search if your doesn't.

      Follow the instructions for extraction of Rawdump creating a desktop folder named "Rawdump."

      Open the game box and insert the Wii game into the new DVD-ROM drive.

      Double click the "RawDump" folder you created on the desktop and wait for it to open.

      Within the Rawdump folder, double click the Rawdump.exe icon and wait for the program to open.

      Click the "Start Dump" icon when the interface window opens. It should initiate the copying and create a time countdown - perhaps several hours.

      When the dump is complete, open the directory containing the rawdump.exe files and locate the file with the game's name containing an .iso extension. Note: Wii files are 4.37 GB and any derivative from this suggestions an error in the backup dump. This file should be placed in the trash and restarted if this occurs for proper backup.

      Open your DVD burning software and create a new file via "burn disc" under the file menu.

      Select the game .iso file created in Step 8 and burn the disc.

      Remove the disc and label it. Store it in a safe place.
