How to Install Windows Media Player on a Wii

The Nintendo Wii is one of the most innovative video game systems available, but even with all the advanced features, the system is not compatible with media discs like DVD-Video and DVD-Audio. Instead of purchasing a separate DVD player, Wii owners can install Windows Media Player on their Wii and enjoy video or audio clips.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase or rent the Wii game Zelda: Twilight Princess. In order to install Windows Media Player, you need to install the Twilight Hack. This involves loading a saved game of Zelda and hacking into your Wii's system.

    • 2

Download the proper saved game files onto the root of a 526 MB SD card. No other sized SD card will properly work within the program.

    • 3

Place the SD card into your Wii and load the data manager. Transfer the saved Zelda file into your system's memory by using the Wii remote and selecting the file. Delete any other Zelda files you have saved and exit out of the data manager.

    • 4

Load the Zelda: Twilight Princess video game. When the saved game options pops up, select the file that matches the serial number on the back of the game disc. This number is either 00 or 02, so check this before loading the game.

    • 5

Run backward or talk to the man standing directly in front of you. The installation of the Wii Homebrew channel should automatically begin as long as you have a wireless Internet connection enabled.

    • 6

Load the Homebrew channel once the installation has completed. Within the homebrew channel should be an option for the Homebrew Browser. Load the Browser and give the program a few minutes to update all the necessary components.

    • 7

Choose the "Applications" tab in the Homebrew Browser and find "Windows Media Player." Wait for Windows Media Player to download and install into your Wii. This should only take a few minutes with a broadband connection.

    • 8

Add media files onto your SD card through your computer. Insert the SD card back into your Wii and open up the "Windows Media Player." Now all of your files should load and play properly on the Nintendo Wii.
