How to Back Up Nintendo Wii Games Onto DVDs

It's a good idea to create backups of Wii games just in case the disc gets scratched or damaged. This method can help to save money on replacing already-owned Wii games that, for some reason, have become damaged or unusable.

The first thing you will need is a Wii-compatible DVD-ROM drive. There are 4 different drives that will read Wii game discs, all made by LG:
      - LG 8161B
      - LG 8162B
      - LG 8163B
      - LG 8164B - this is the most affordable one, and works just fine for this. Newegg.com is a good place to find one of these. Make sure it's the exact model listed above, or you will be unable to read Wii game discs.

Install the drive into your computer following instructions that came with it. Test it with a regular DVD to make sure it's installed correctly.

    • 3

Once this is complete you need to download the following software applications: Raw Dump 2.1, .Net Framework 2.0 and IZArc. Download and install these programs, and then extract the RawDump .rar file.

    • 4

Insert the Wii game disc into the LG DVD-ROM drive, then run Raw Dump from the extracted location. Once open, click "Start Dump" and wait for the process. It may take several hours.

It should have dumped to the Raw Dump folder, for which the size of the .ISO file should be 4.37 GB. Burn the .ISO file to a DVD-R using a program such as Nero at the slowest speed available to ensure quality.
