- When purchasing a game from the Virtual Console, make sure that you have the proper hardware to play the game. For example, if you want to download Mario 64 from the Nintendo 64 system, you will need either the Classic Controller or the GameCube Controller to play. The Wii Remote usually works for most NES and Sega Genesis games.
