Features
The Wii Shop features games for the virtual console and programs known as Wii Ware. These programs and games are all purchased using Wii Points, either bought directly on the Wii or with preloaded cards at retailers. The Wii Shop is accessed through the main Nintendo Wii menu, but you need to have an active wireless Internet connection in order to enable and use it. If the Wii Internet settings are not set, you will be automatically transferred to them when you try to load the program.
Types
When purchasing games for the Wii virtual console section of the Wii Shop channel, there are six different systems from the past that there are games for. These systems are the NES, Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Turbo Grafx 16, and the NEOGEO. The most games available are the games for the NES system.
In Wii Ware, you can download exclusive Wii games like Midnight Pool, Family Table Tennis, TV Show King and My Pokemon Ranch. All of these games are made exclusively for the Wii and feature interactive features. Wii Ware also has things like the Photochannel, Internet Browser and the Everybody Votes channel.
Considerations
When purchasing a game from the Virtual Console, make sure that you have the proper hardware to play the game. For example, if you want to download Mario 64 from the Nintendo 64 system, you will need either the Classic Controller or the GameCube Controller to play. The Wii Remote usually works for most NES and Sega Genesis games.
Features
Most games available in the virtual console cost from 500 through 1200 Wii points. If the game is an import from Japan, it will usually cost a little more. The cheapest games available are on the NES, and the most expensive games found are exported from the Nintendo 64 system. Some Wii Channels are actually free of charge like the new Photo Channel update and the Everybody Votes Channel.
Benefits
Purchasing games and software from the Wii shop will guarantee that you have the games on your Nintendo Wii forever. You will not need to worry about discs scratching or getting misplaced as long as you have your Nintendo Wii. Using the Opera web browser will also help you get cheat codes and strategy guides for games instead of going back and forth from a computer.
