How to Reset Your Wii Remote

The Nintendo Wii uses wireless controllers called Wii remotes that send signals to a sensor bar that you place near your television. Wii remotes are linked to the console through a process called syncing, and the sync remains in place even when the console is turned off. If your remote isn't communicating with your Wii, make sure the sensor bar is plugged into the back of the console and properly positioned by your screen, and replace the batteries in your Wii remote. If that doesn't work, reset the sync and establish a new connection to solve the problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Wii console and unplug the power cable from the outlet. Wait ten seconds, then plug it back in.

    • 2

Turn the Wii on and wait for the safety information screen to appear.

    • 3

Open the small flap on the front of the Wii console. Press and hold the red button inside the compartment for 15 seconds to reset any Wii remote syncs to the console.

    • 4

Remove the battery cover from the back of the Wii remote.

    • 5

Press and release the red button inside the battery compartment. The blue lights on the remote will start blinking.

    • 6

Quickly press and release the red sync button in the compartment on the Wii console. The lights on the remote will stop blinking, and the controller should now be synced to the console.

    • 7

Repeat Steps 4 through 6 for each Wii remote you want to sync to the console.
