How to Master Tennis in Wii Sports

Tennis in Wii Sports is maybe the most popular Wii Sports game and the easiest to pick up and play. Simply toss controllers to some friends and you can swing away, or you can play on your own against the computer. Mastering Wii Sports tennis takes a little more work but these steps will help elevate your game to the master level.

Instructions

    • 1

Learn the different shots and spins. To apply topspin to a forehand shot, swing forward while twisting the Wii controller toward the screen. You can hit a forehand slice by swinging upwards and twisting the Wii controller away from the screen. Apply topspin and slice to a backhand shot the same way, just from the other side of your body.

    • 2

Get consistent with power serves. Power serves are the fast serves that have a yellow trail. A good power server can put your opponent in automatic defensive mode allowing you to control the point. An easy way to get power serves is to hit the "A" button to throw the ball up instead of flicking the Wii controller up. Hit the ball at its highest point for a power serve.

    • 3

Decide when to swing with the player at the net and when to let the ball pass. Trying to get all balls with your net player may be the most natural thing to do but it is not always the best. Hit with your net player when you have a good shot and let the shot by if your net player would have to dive for it, so you can better set up the next shot.

    • 4

Aim at your opponent's net player when you are playing against the computer. The computer often won't swing with the net player and you can sneak many shots by for a point.

    • 5

Mix up your shots to keep your opponent moving and guessing. You can use the fact that the players on the game move automatically to interrupt rhythm.

    • 6

Practice with the training modes to master the different kind of shots and work on your timing. The practice games will help you learn when to swing at the ball and how to keep the ball in play with the optimum shot.
