Rappelz
Rappelz is played using a downloadable program known as the Rappelz client. The client software is used to create a new character in Rappelz and to log in to the game world for play. The "Rappelz KTS" variant of the game has its own client which functions the same as the standard game client but logs players into the Korean test server that has been set up for Rappelz instead of logging them into the main game.
Korean Test Server
The Rappelz Korean test server is a special version of the Rappelz game intended to test the game in the Korean gaming market. Only individuals who are Korean citizens and who in South Korea can download and run the KTS version of the game; others will encounter errors when attempting to log in using the Rappelz KTS client. Though core game mechanics and art assets remain the same in the KTS version of the game, game balance and items may be changed to meet the needs and gameplay preferences of Korean gamers.
IP Blocking
Access to the Rappelz KTS game is controlled through Internet service provider tracking and blocking. Only computers with an IP address originating in South Korea can log in with the KTS game client; those who attempt to log in from other parts of the world will receive an error message stating that the content is not available in their area. Even Korean players who are traveling abroad are blocked from accessing the game server, though the use of proxy servers in Korea may allow them to log in to the game.
Account Control
In addition to controlling KTS access through the use of IP blocking, only Korean citizens with a Korean Social Security Number can create an account to play on the Rappelz KTS. Those without a valid KSSN are prohibited from creating game accounts for use on the test server. Attempting to use someone else's KSSN to create an account is illegal, as the Korean authorities consider it a form of identity theft and may prosecute anyone caught using a Korean citizen's KSSN.
