The Error
Error 0X00000002 appears whenever an update for HackShield, Nexon̵7;s customized anti-hacking and anti-cheating tool, fails to complete. The error itself exists to alert users that their systems are not able to connect to ̶0;MapleStory̶1; or other Nexon games until HackShield is updated properly.
HackShield
HackShield monitors play and watches for external programs that inject data into the game. Many Nexon titles, like ̶0;Combat Arms,̶1; rely heavily on the program to prevent cheating in competitive events. In games like ̶0;MapleStory̶1; it exists to prevent players from tampering with the skills, items, attributes or other in-game settings that define their heroes. All online Nexon games require verification of the current version of HackShield prior to granting a player access to game servers.
Manual Update Process
The prevalence of this error resulted in ̶0;MapleStory̶1; programmers designing a manual update process to address the issue. This update made the latest HackShield version available as a direct download in a compressed ̶0;.zip̶1; file. You may apply the manual update during any time that the game itself goes down for maintenance. Attempting to update HackShield during normal play hours may result in additional errors due to the disparity between the download version and any updates made after the event update.
Additional Information
This error has additional effects on your Nexon gaming experience. Not only will ̶0;MapleStory̶1; deny access, but any other Nexon games that you have installed will also do so until you apply the update correctly. If you have other games installed, such as ̶0;Combat Arms̶1; or ̶0;Dungeon Fighter Online,̶1; you may receive this error when the company applies updates for those games. You may manually update the HackShield installation for those games, as well.
