The Voice Box

• The "IMVU" voice box is an optional accessory for your avatar. When you're in a chat room and you have a voice box equipped, you and the person with whom you're chatting will hear sounds and voices whenever you chat. Some voice boxes are executable on text command. Input a backslash before the text command, such as "\scream."

Purchase a Voice Box

• The "IMVU" catalog has voice boxes for purchase with "IMVU" credits. Other players are responsible for the creation of most of these voice boxes. Browse the "Boomboxes" section of the catalog for male or female avatars or enter "voice box" in the search function to see the currently available voice boxes. Once you purchase the voice box, activate it on the "Accessories" tab under the "Dress Up" menu on your "IMVU" home page.

Make Your Own

• You can make your own voice boxes for your "IMVU" avatar. Record any sounds or phrases you want to use in your voice box with any digital recorder. The audio should be 20 seconds or less. Convert the audio files to ogg format with a media converter. Submit the ogg file to the "IMVU Creator" program and if it's approved for the catalog, you can equip it to your avatar.

• Voice boxes may be appealing, but be careful not to overload your avatar with extras like voice boxes because they slow down your browser when active. IMVU recommends that you keep your avatar between 1,000 and 2,000 kilobytes. Some voice boxes are more than 2,000 KB on their own. Check your avatar's current KB by hovering your mouse over your icon in a chat session.
