How to Level Your Snail in MapleStory

When you reach level 15 in the online multiplayer role-playing game "MapleStory," you have a brief encounter with a purple-haired fairy who leaves you the gift of a small egg in your inventory. Inside the egg is a snail, which you can hatch and make into a pet that can help you with gameplay and accompany you through the game as a member of your party. The snail is only a temporary pet, and leaves after accompanying you for a period of five hours. Make your snail more powerful by leveling it up during that time.

  Click "Items" to view all your items. Click twice on the snail to make it appear next to you in the game.

  Navigate to a pet merchant in any town or area of the game. Buy Pet Food, which you can use to feed any of the in-game animals. The Pet Food appears in your inventory.

  Open your Inventory screen and click the Pet Food icon to bring up usage options for that item. Click "Use," then click the Pet Food icon twice. This feeds your snail one time. As you feed your snail, it levels up at random intervals. The snail displays a "hunger meter" that indicates if it needs feeding. When the hunger meter is at zero, the snail cannot be fed and is full; when it is maxed out at 100, feed the snail approximately three times, during which it may level up at least once.

  Type communications -- things like "iloveyou," "levelup" and "quest" -- to your snail into the "MapleStory" chat box. You may enter each command three times. When you enter these commands, the snail levels up at random intervals.
